As you review the case, ask yourself the general question, “What else would I like to know about this case?” to assist in the differential diagnosis. In the paper, clearly identify your process for ruling-out other disorders as possible diagnoses, as well as your process for arriving at the final diagnosis. Direct quotations from the case should be included as supporting evidence for your discussion.
The case evaluation should include a brief description of:
1) The presenting problem.
2) The external or environmental factors that may be relevant in the etiology and maintenance of the presenting problems.
3) The internal factors (biological, affective, cognitive) that might be relevant in the etiology and maintenance of the presenting problems.
4) Differential diagnosis
5) A complete DSM-5 diagnosis for the case.
6) Two treatment goals for the client; treatment goals should be specific, measurable, and relevant to the presenting problem.
7) The main empirically-based treatment options (both pharmacological and psychological) for the diagnosis.
