Do they effectively respond to those arguments?5. Read the first sentence of each paragraph in the essay. Can you identify from the topicsentence what each paragraph will be about? If you read only the topic sentences in theessay, would you understand what points the author is making?6. Identify the part of the essay that is the strongest defense of their thesis (can be a wholeparagraph or a specific example within a paragraph) and explain what it does well. Identifythe part of the essay that is the weakest defense of the thesis (or that is not useful todefending the thesis). Should the author rework this section or delete it entirely?7. Identify three sentences in the essay that you found either confusing/unclear or that couldbe deleted without hurting the author’s argument. Underline or highlight these sentences ontheir essay.8.
