Then, write a 1-2 page (double spaced) review of the article above using the following assignment description (also found in your syllabus in the appendix).
This article, it is a critique of psychology from a very angry and upset scientist. This article will not require you to closely follow the below outline. Instead, just summarize their argument and tell us whether that argument still holds water today?
USE MLA FORMAT!
This assignment is designed to reinforce skills learned in other courses on how to read and synthesize information from a scientific source. Students will write 2 summaries. Each summary should be 2 pages long. A particular focus should be given to the four main sections of a research paper and the specific questions noted below. Don’t address each of them, I don’t want a 5-page paper. Use these questions as prompts as you read the article. Use whatever format you choose but do please choose a format!
Introduction:
Summarize the background for the study. Be sure to include the research question and hypothesis as well as the support the authors provide for the importance of their study. Try to find their underlying argument for what their study adds to the knowledge in this area. Be sure to summarize their argument. Do not state it in their words; use your own. For example,
What did the authors already know about effects of warnings on behavior?
How have past researchers studied the effects of warnings on behavior?
What are the real-world implications of this study (how does their study connect with everyday behaviors)?
What new knowledge will be gained by the study that is described?
What was(were) the specific research question(s) they were trying to answer?
Method:
Summarize the method for the study the authors reported. Including:
a brief description of the subjects
a description of what was measured including operational definitions (e.g., how the behavior was measured, etc.)
what the subjects did during the study
what was measured from the subjects?
But remember that this is a summary, so every detail of the Method does not need to be mentioned.
Results:
Describe the results found in each of the studies. Don’t focus too much on the statistics or numbers.
Focus on the key result.
Place particular importance on results that provide an answer to the research question you identified in the Introduction.
For the General Discussion:
State what answer was found for the research questions and what results gave them the answer.
What is the important knowledge contributed by this study?
What do these results tell us about the effects of warnings on behavior?
How are these results useful?
