Each journal will include:
A brief introductory paragraph (2 or 3 sentences)
A minimum of 200 words of critical reflection based on a brief summary of part of the class content and a discussion of a few key points. Choose something that stood out for you. Identify your learning. There is a list of suggested concepts and language to use in each journal – you don’t have to use them all. Think of one topic from one of the classes.
A minimum of 200 words personal reflection including your personal experiences, thoughts and views about the topic you chose, personal learning and growth. This asks you to apply the concept to you and your life experience, and to explore new paradigms/beliefs.
A minimum of 200 words making a clear link to how this knowledge and personal awareness (2 and 3) will help you as a SSW/CYC practitioner in your placement and in the field. It is not enough to say “we have to know ourselves to help others” although this is a good starting point. Be specific.
A brief concluding paragraph (2 or 3 sentences)
Although you are encouraged to write in the first person (“I”) and share your thoughts and feelings about the content, you do still need to write in a professional manner. Your journals should be well organized with an introduction and conclusion. Spelling and grammar errors and typos need to be eliminated before you hand in your work. Citations are NOT required if you are referring to the class material.
