Literature Review (140 points, 17.50% of total grade): Students will complete an individual
assignment and a group presentation one of the following eight topics of interest in the discipline: 3. What effects does social media/mobile technology have on attention, mood, and decision
making in college students?
As the first part of this project,
you will research the topic and prepare a literature review. In preparation for this, there will be milestone
assignments throughout the semester. Throughout, please follow these guidelines:
Writing Style
• You are expected to demonstrate basic competence with APA Style. Complete the new APA
style tutorial available at: https://apastyle.apa.org/blog/basics-7e-tutorial
• You are expected to demonstrate professional writing skills. You will be required to seek
assistance from Academic Support services or the Writing Center as needed. Psychology tutors

are especially prepared to assist with APA style scientific writing. The literature review should be
well written in APA format, in accord with the APA Publication Manual or Concise Guide,
referenced above. You may also find answers to frequently asked questions about APA Style online
at: https://apastyle.apa.org/
Library Research
• Exercise library research skills utilizing a variety of local resources and/or electronic databases to
find recent research on your topic within scholarly professional psychology journals (not popular
sources). Scholar.google.com is also an excellent resource, and is synchronized with library
resources when you log in through the campus internet.
• Identify at least five (5) original scholarly sources (journal articles, chapters in edited volumes, or
scholarly book) directly relevant to the topic and emphasizing psychology as the basis for
developing a list of references of these citations according to APA style. This list should be
submitted via Canvas by the date indicated in the Course Schedule. I will evaluate this
assignment for APA-style and the quality of your sources. This assignment will be returned to
you with comments and corrections in time to allow you to adjust your research and presentation
strategy as necessary to develop a high-quality literature review on your topic.
• Select four (4) of the best sources you were able to find (directly relevant to the topic) as the
basis for development of a literature review written according to APA style.
