What is your theory about how people develop these disorders? Discuss some beliefs you have about the development and etiology of these disorders.
Do you believe that clients can overcome these disorders? What role do you believe counselors play in the process of helping clients who have been diagnosed with a mood disorder?
Some mental health professionals choose to share a diagnosis with a client and some do not. How can it be helpful and/or harmful to share a mood disorder diagnosis with a client? How can you use diagnoses with clients in ways that are empowering, rather than reinforcing the client’s beliefs that they are “disordered” in some way?
