Dr. Jeanne Stinchcomb (2011) outlined three operational objectives of custody in prisons and jails:
Prevent escape
Maintain order and safety
Promote efficient functioning of the facility
How do correctional officers ensure that these objectives are met? What can happen if these three goals are not met? And how does meeting these basic objectives ensure that both officers and inmates are happier?
