You will select or be assigned a diagnosis from DSM-5-TR that you will feature in
this assignment. Use the DSM and at least two current (published within ten years)
peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles as your resources. Do not use your Sue
textbook or any content from popular psychology websites. The paper (5-7 text pages,
plus cover sheet and references) should contain the following:
 Diagnostic criteria for the disorder. Do not quote large blocks of the DSM.
Explain the symptoms by paraphrasing and summarizing each criterion.
 Associated features of the disorder. How do the symptoms impact an
individual’s cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social functioning? How
does the disorder impact an individual’s risk for suicide? What other features
of the disorder are important?
 Epidemiology of the disorder (prevalence in gender, age, ethnicity, and
culture).
 Risk factors for the disorder. Describe temperamental, environmental, and
genetic risk factors and provide brief examples.
 Differential and comorbid diagnoses for the disorder. Define these terms
and explain how a clinician can distinguish this disorder from others. Identify
and describe any disorders that commonly co-occur with the disorder.
 Course of the disorder. Describe when the disorder occurs in the lifespan,
how long it lasts, its patterns of remission, and mortality rates
