Overview: In this assessment, you will choose a community (it could be your own or another of your choice) and, through research, identify a priority health issue. You will then examine the emergency preparedness plan or program of your selected community. Determine the extent to which the community is able to meet the nursing care needs of its population that is affected by the priority health issue during a disaster situation. In addition, you will evaluate the emergency preparedness plan for its potential to meet the needs of a global audience. You will use the community health profile (windshield survey) that you completed to help you with this milestone.

Prompt: In the Module One discussion, you identified a community that is the focus for your entire final project. Using that community and the provided Milestone One template, you will submit an introduction to the community and analyze the health indicators of the community. Your responses for the introduction and assessment sections of the template can be in summary or bulleted-list format. This milestone is an opportunity for you to brainstorm and research components for these two sections of your final project.

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

I. Introduction: Provide an overview of the community you chose to study, including geographic location and demographic information such as population(s) and socioeconomic information.

II. Assessment: In this section, you will analyze the health indicators of the selected community.

A. Health Profile: Summarize your findings from the windshield survey that you previously completed.

B. Overarching Goals: Discuss your chosen community with respect to the four overarching goals of Healthy People 2020. In other words, how does the community account for a wide diversity of populations with regard to responding to the Healthy People 2020 goals initiative? Be sure to defend your response.

C. Implementation: Analyze the implementation of Healthy People 2020 goals within your chosen community. In other words, based on four of the Healthy People 2020 goals, what evidence exists to indicate your selected community is making progress toward achieving these overarching goals? Be sure to discuss both areas of strength and areas of need. Be sure to support your claims.

D. Social Determinants of Health: Based on your analysis of the implementation of the Healthy People 2020 goals and the health profile of the community, identify the social determinants of health of the specific community, justifying your identifications with technological data analytics.

E. Priority Health Issue: Based on your analysis of these areas of strength and need, identify the priority health issue for your chosen community.
