Assignment : Perform a patent and product search to determine the Intellectual Property landscape and your Freedom To Operate within your market. You should be trying to find existing technologies, either patented or existing in the marketplace, that will impact your team’s ability to protect or make your design idea.
Find at least 5 examples of either patents or other existing prior art that impact your design (you will need at least 2x patents).
Write a ~2-page paper that outlines the prior art you found and how you interpret those examples will impact your design decisions and FTO.
Your FTO / IP Analysis Paper should include:
Name, date, Project / Team Name
Overview of what the document (i.e. prior art search and patentability assessment for…, short couple of sentences)
Summary of the Technology (short, sentence or 2)
Relevant publications (including research, patents, items for sale, YouTube videos, websites, etc…)
Include links and pictures (if relevant) for these examples to aid the reader in understanding the IP landscape and to give context to your FTO assessment.
Summarize the salient information that the prior art describes as it relates to your proposed design.
Include relevant claims for patents
Conclusion write a paragraph or 2 describing your general consensus of the IP landscape
