Local Policy Issue Advocacy Letter:
Write a letter to District 29 New York City Council: Lynn Schulman, advocating for a local health care policy issue/topic. The topic of your advocacy letter should any matter related to health that you believe needs to be addressed by a change in local health policy, rules, laws, or ordinances, that you want your local congressional representative to be aware of. This topic should be about a local issue in your community. Look around your community and decide as nurse/ nurse practitioner student what would you advocate to change as it relates to health in your community.

Local Health Issue: Too many smoke-shops have opened in district 29 which effect the local population, especially the underage adolescent population. The smoke-shops are located within walking distance from local 4 schools (P.S 175, Russel Sage, Halsey, Forest Hills High-school). PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE ACTUAL RESEARCH OF THE SCHOOLS AND THE SMOKE-SHOP LOCATIONS IN DISTRICT 29 (11375).
Please discuss nurse intervention: Nurses will create presentations and hands-on learning and awareness for parents and students of these 4 schools listed above of the health concerns of smoking, vaping, and possibly other forms of drugs sold at these shops. Also please discuss plan for the NYC Council Lynn Shulman to implement to improve this issue of smoke shops in close proximity to schools, for example, undercover police officers to check these shops for licenses.
