One area in my specialty that needs improvement is decision-making on how to integrate non-medical care solutions in the clinical setting. One such non-medical condition is chiropractic care, which is intended to help with pain management alongside physiotherapy and pain medication. However, there have been disagreements on how to engage holistic practitioners, patients, nurses, physicians, and hospital administration in adopting holistic care. The disagreements arise because the role of each service is not mapped out. Shannon et al. (2018) observes that for holistic care to be properly integrated into care settings, there needs to be proper engagement that allows each person to understand their role and how to balance the expectations. The nursing theory that applies to this problem is the Leininger’s theory. This theory emphasis the importance of holistic and comprehensive approach for instance, when physicians fear that holistic practitioners are not medically experienced with pain management, the hospital administration should take action to educate the physicians on why such care services are needed. Additionally, when nurses question their role efforts need to be made to reconcile nursing work in medical pain management with that of holistic care. These considerations improve the effectiveness of holistic care.
