The National Commission to Prevent Infant Mortality points out that for every $1 invested in prenatal care, $3 to $10 is saved on postnatal care. The nation spends over $2 billion a year on hospital care to keep low-birth-weight babies alive, and many of those who survive are left with a lifetime of medical disability. For a quarter of the cost spent on low-birth-weight babies, prenatal care could be provided to all pregnant women who now go without care.
 Assuming that you could use the money saved by not providing for low-birth-weight babies on prenatal care for all women, as well as better “well baby” care for all infants, would you make the choice? Answer it based on some criteria of justice.
