The clinical Healthcare issue topic of interest to formulate the PICOT question to lead throughout the course, I make the choice of “Under seeking and management of mental/behavioral health issues in the United States”. Early dictation and treatment of mental health issues are of paramount importance in the successful management and addressing of mental issues. (Fitzpatrick, et al 2021) found that the prevalence of mental health problems and service utilization of a group is affected by geographic remoteness in rural areas. Common sense of this issue is that identifying mental health challenges is the responsibility of those around them that are challenged. With the COVID-19 pandemic circumstance and its lockdown effect, most often family, friends, teachers, or individuals themselves begin to recognize small changes or a feeling that “something is not quite right” about how they think, feel, or behave before an illness appears in its full-blown form (American Psychiatric Association., 2022). These close contacts are those I find that can help identify the illness in its early stage.
During my research, I encountered some barriers to finding articles that can support my PICOT question. I first searched by typing in the word “Under seeking mental health” a host of articles appeared that I could hardly pin down to get information that can help me on the subject. This database was PubMed, Utilizing the Walden University Library n.d after scrolling up and down to see if I can narrow it, and still getting more articles that are not specific to my topic, I accessed the CINAHL database knowing that it is more specific for Nursing related topics and the result was better, as I typed in the keyword into the search bars ‘under seeking mental/behavioral health’ AND ‘access to care’ AND ‘rural areas’ broad-based articles mostly from Australia and the United Kingdom to browse came up, but when I narrowed it to AND ‘The United States.” concise group of about 16 articles with a focus on the local areas in the states that are specific to my need came up. To increase the rigor and effectiveness of my PICOT question on the database, I found that the best method is the use of “and” ‘or’ and the search was able to narrow my findings to articles that were able to support my topic of interest (Walden, n.d., para.1). The search was elaborate and provided the evidence base peer-reviewed articles that support the question.
