It is important to be able to locate the specific components that make up a research study or article in order to determine if the components are in alignment. “Alignment” here means that the components fit together and tightly address a particular issue, situation, or problem. For this discussion, you will find an article, dissertation, or ADP that describes a qualitative case study, and discuss how its issue, purpose statement, and research questions are all in alignment.

Locate a qualitative case study dissertation or applied research project in the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (Links to an external site.) database or an article describing a qualitative case study within the UAGC Library.

Share the following three components of the case study you located:
issue, situation, or problem it addressed
purpose statement
research question(s)
Note: For some studies and articles, these components are easy to identify and are explicitly stated, while for others you might need to interpret the information within the study or article and write these components in your own words.
Once you have identified the three above components and included them in your response, discuss how each component is in alignment with the other components (e.g., how the research questions align with the problem statement, etc.). If they are not in alignment, explain how or why they are misaligned.
